Social Enterprise
What is a Social Enterprise
Social Enterprises are businesses that trade for community benefit rather than personal profit. They are often known as "not for profit" busineses, though in many cases profits are made but are reinvested into the business and not distributed to shareholders.
Like conventional businesses they offer goods and services, and operate in many sectors.
Social Enterprises exist to achieve social objectives, such as:,
Offering services that are unavailable or too expensive for the local community
Providing education, training and employment opportunities for people who are disadvantaged
Providing social care or other services that help people.
